Description
The folk history of this åkdyna says that it depicts the king and queen on their way to a “brydegille” (scutching bee) with the wooden scutching knife in hand. The embroiderer probably modeled her work after a catchpenny print with motifs of the Roman emperor and empress. Åkdynor with the same motif are in the collections of the Vemmenhög Local Historical Society and Malmö Museum. This one is dated to 1810. The fabric is dark brown. Embroidered using one-sided satin stitch, stem stitch, long and short stitch, and French knots. The materials package contains: pre-drawn wool fabric, wool yarn, a paper pattern, a color image, stitch descriptions, and a needle. Fabric for the backing is not included but broadcloth and wadmal can be ordered from our shop. Fabric for the tassels is not included, we suggest you reuse old textiles or order small remnants of broadcloth and wadmal from us.
